Rigid-flex printed circuits

The flexible printed circuits have been used only in special areas in the past. Parallel to the miniaturization of the components the demand for the compaction of construction method appeared in case of some equipments (cell phones, digital cameras etc.), which was possible by using the rigid-flexible circuits. The application of these circuits has strongly enlarged the security of service of the equipments and helped this technology to become popular in the automotive industry.

Respond to market’s demands AUTER Electronics Ltd has started to design and manufacture rigid-flexible circuit boards since the 1st of January, 2005.

Using of EL (electroluminescent) foils and inks


The development of Auter Ltd takes care for the history of EL inks’ development for many years. Today our company makes big efforts to introduce the EL ink technology on the home market. The final goal of our developments and production experiments to find a solution - first of all used in case of membrane switch boards -, with which we can improve the aesthe-tical appearance of our products and enlarge the application possibilities (the figures can be seen in the dark and dawn). But it is important to avoid using much higher price than the prise of normal products without EL foil.

The technology has been developed for the military industry, first of all for steel-plated vehicles and backlight of plane’s dashboard. However we can often find this product in the common electronic mainly as a backlight of LCD displays. Some mobil phones, watches, home studios daisplays and many dashboards of well known car types have the backlight like this. This type is well known amoung the commercial graphic designers.

The function and the construction are very simple


The common use of three different inks - conductive, insulating and illuminated - can be seen. There is a base layer, which is a PCB board this case, made by rigid or flexible material.
The inverter is tipically works with 80-200 Vpp voltage and 400-600 Hz frequency.
The current drain can be chosen between 5-30 mA.
The thickness of the insulators, connectors and their resistivities, capacities can be determined when you choose the driver.
We try to place the driver’s electronic on the membrane switch board but the circuit can be easily connected to other electronic units as well. It is not allowed to forget during the design of the connector cable’s position that the cable can „dust” the circuits near-by. And in case of bigger power you can hear the circuit, because the frequency is 400-600 Hz.
